GRIDCo ADJUDGED THE BEST POWER TRANSMISSION/DISTRIBUTION COMPANY IN WEST AFRICA AGAIN

GRIDCo has been adjudged the Best Power Transmission/Distribution Company in West Africa in this year’s West African Industry Awards, organized by the West African Power Industry Convention (WAPIC), held in Lagos, Nigeria, on November 23, 2016.

 
GRIDCo emerged the winner among four (4) other competing utility companies, namely; Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, Nigeria; Benin Electricity DisCo, Benin; Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, Nigeria;and Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, Nigeria.
 
Ing. Willaim Amuna Chief Executive of GRIDCo considers the award as yet another feather in the company’s cup, especially because it is the second consecutive time, having won the same Award last year.
 
Following a rigorous evaluation process, an Independent Judging Committee selected GRIDCo as the winner of the “EXCELLENCE IN POWER TRANSMISSION OR DISTRIBUTION” award, for distinction among its peers. The criteria for the award is that the Utility concerned must have excelled in one or more of the following areas: Distribution of Power; Service Delivery; Project Roll-Out; Technology Roll-Out; Revenue Protection Measures; and Loss Reduction.
 
The Chief Executive noted that one of GRIDCo’s major action plans is to support government’s vision to increase universal access to electricity by the year 2020.
In the light of this, he enumerated a number of projects, which GRIDCo is undertaking, especially the construction of new and expansions in sub-stations nationwide. To mention, but a few, someof the sub-stations include the following sub-stations; Kpando, Kejebi Berekum, Juabeso, Tumu, Wa and Bawku sub-stations.
 
According to Chairman of the Load Shedding Management Committee, GRIDCo is also constructing major transmission lines from the coast of Ghana towards Burkina Faso projected to be completed by the third quarter of 2017.
He expressed gratitude to Government, Ministry of Power; Ministry of Finance and Development Partners for all the needed support He opined that, “… the Award will spur us on to continue delivering our mandate as the Best Transmission Utility Company in West Africa.
 
West African Power Industry Convention is organized by Spintelligent, a leading South African-based trade exhibition and conference organizer and the African office of Clarion Events Ltd., based in the United Kingdom.
 
WAPIC highlihgts the performance of power utilities within the sub-region to showcase their brands among their Management teams.
